Confession: I used to be a book-buying addict. I can’t even tell you guys how much money I’ve spent on random books at Half Price Books. I don’t want to say that money was wasted but let’s just say a lot of those books went unread and ended up back at Half Price Books.
My husband and I have really minimal storage space at our house (okay, townhome…whatever) so I’ve really tried not to buy any books since I tend to only read them once (or not read them at all….oops). So how do I get my books? Better question – how do I get them for FREE on my kindle/iPhone?
The answer is much simpler than you might think: the public library!
Yep. The Fort Worth Public Library has a huuuuge selection of ebooks that you can check out for 2 or 3 weeks (whichever you choose), and they will automatically upload to your Kindle! It’s so stinking convenient. Also, if there’s not a waitlist you can renew them for another 2 or 3 weeks! (If you don’t have a Kindle, you can download the Kindle app for free on your iPhone or iPad.)
The Library also has a really large selection of audiobooks, they aren’t quite as easy to download but basically you download them to iTunes and then transfer it to your iPod/iPhone (or whatever you have). Video streaming was recently introduced as well – the selection isn’t giant but they’ve got some nice options for new and old movies and hey…it’s free!
I think the best part about ALL of this is the fact that the ebooks and audiobooks return themselves automatically. That’s right, y’all…no late fees! I have literally NEVER returned a Redbox movie on time so this is a HUGE bonus for me.
Here are some of the books I’ve read/listened to for FREEEEE thanks to the Fort Worth Public Library:
-Legend (Marie Liu) – currently reading
-Bossypants (Tina Fey)
-Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me (Mindy Kaling)
-Harry Potter – all 7 books (JK Rowling)
-#GIRLBOSS (Sophia Amoruso)
-Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter (Seth Grahame-Smith)
-Dad is Fat (Jim Gaffigan)
-The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (Stieg Larsson)
-Orange is the New Black (Piper Kerman)
…and probably more than I can’t think of off the top of my head!
What I’m trying to say is, get yourself to your local library, sign up for a library card and start checking out some ebooks, yo!
