Diversity Chic – Vest Dressed

Full discosure: I used to hate wearing vests. I remember when I was REALLY little, I wore them occasionally but once I hit later elementary school/middle school vests were no longer cool and I wanted nothing to do with them. I think they came back a bit when I was in high school (the puffy vests have been pretty resilient – impressive). BUT I still never wore them. In college, I bought a black dressy looking vest (you know the ones) and tragically wore it with v neck t shirts that I stenciled stuff onto and skinny pants. *shudder* 

For this month’s Diversity Chic, we decided to showcase vests of all types that are perfect for fall and winter. I wore my trusty J Crew Herringbone knockoff vest because let’s be honest, I freaking love that thing. Yes it’s fall but it was still crazy hot when we took these photos so I opted for a short sleeved shirt. I love working fall pieces in with short sleeved shirts and shorts when it’s still warmer. It keeps your outfit from looking too summery but also won’t make you sweat through your flannel.

I love this look because it’s all black so it was really easy to put together but the different textures and patterns bring some interest to the look. My combat boots from Target are one of my favorite fall colors, maroon, and I love that they tie in some color without being too flashy. With my crazy hair, I’ve already got enough of a summer look going on, so I am kind of staying away from bright colors for fall and winter.

Since it’s fall, I kept my lip color more neutral – I’ve been leaning towards pinks up until recently but I’m slowly transitioning into more nudes and reds. This one in particular has been a go-to favorite! It’s the NYX Liquid Suede Lip Cream in Sandstorm – if you watched my video review and demo on these lippies you know just how much I love this shade. Per usual, Stephanie Drenka and her trusty sidekick husband Holden really nailed it with these photos. I cannot get enough of the dreamy sun….#goldenhour. Also a huge shoutout to Downtown Carrollton for having this adorable little setup! I’ve been out of town for the last week or so but I’m guessing it’s still there. Even if it’s not, you have to make your way down there! Not only can you visit the always adorable Vintage House, they’ve just opened a new Cane Rosso location and y’all it’s DELISH!
