This post was sponsored by The New Blak – all opinions are my own.
I started out my year with some style goals – you might remember them from this post! Well, one of my style goals was to shop fast fashion less. There are LOTS of reasons not to shop at fast fashion stores as much as I used to, but here are a few of mine:
- They often steal from smaller designers, simply because they can
- They (usually) aren’t eco-friendly
- These brands typically aren’t inclusive with sizing
- The quality is usually poor, so even though it’s inexpensive it might fall apart, shrink, or start to look bad after just a few washes
I honestly haven’t been shopping much this year, so abiding by my shopping style goals hasn’t been *too* tough. Heck, it has even forced me to stick with one of my style goals, which is to wear what I have more often!
All that to say…I was so excited when The New Blak approached me for a collaboration, they are an INCREDIBLE company, y’all! I mean seriously, if you want to look for a brand that’s doing it right….it’s The New Blak. You can read more about their ethical practices here, but I’ll give you the short version:
- They use sustainable bamboo and organic cotton for all of their products.
- They cut their fabrics strategically in order to minimize waste and keep and reuse all fabric scraps! I’m pretty sure the belt I’m wearing in this post was made from scraps….gorgeous.
- They use minimal, eco-friendly packaging.
I’ve already worn The Lauren jumpsuit MULTIPLE times since I got it and it’s so comfortable and easy to style! It’s “one size fits most,” and I was super nervous about that, but the fit couldn’t be better. There’s a lot of room, but it still felt like a “good fit” for me. Because of my proportions, I usually stay FAR away from one size fits most – it’s usually either too small in the hips or too large in the bust (or both). But….not this one! Adding a cute braided belt helped me feel a bit more pulled together, but it works fine without the belt too.
I love having a little black jumpsuit in my arsenal as an alternative to the classic LBD. They’re just as easy to style except way more comfortable! Per usual, I wanted a little mix of feminine and masculine with this look, so I wore a simple faux leather jacket and some gigantic Jeffrey Campbell heels. My hair was super messy, so a bun and some giant earrings finished up the outfit.
Being more thoughtful with my purchases is NOT something that comes naturally to me. I’m usually a “more is more” kind of gal, but so far I’ve really stuck to my style goals for 2018 and it feels great. Sometimes it feels like the world’s problems are SO big that we can’t possibly do anything to fix them. This year with my wardrobe, I’m setting habits into place that, over time, will make a massive difference and I challenge you to do the same thing. I can’t wait to add more amazing, high quality, ethically-made pieces to my wardrobe from The New Blak. Check out their website and then let me know what you love!
