I posted an embarrassing photo in my stories so I I posted an embarrassing photo in my stories so I have to balance it by posting a hot one here 😂 Also wow I haven’t posted since HALLOWEEN. I’ve been spending most of my IG time on my candle account, @brennancandleco, but I truly MISS Y’ALL. I formed so many great relationships over the years and I want to get back to that. So you’ll be seeing more of me, probably in a less curated way than you used to. I might lose some of y’all but I hope the ones I call friends will stick around because I really do miss you.

And lastly, if you ARE into more business-y content from me, follow @brennancandleco, there are some pretty awesome things happening over there if I do say so myself.

Hoping our plants survive but more importantly, I hope the snow puts out the wildfires that seem to be never ending. It’s been a brutal summer for many reasons, but it’s still pretty cool to look at this bowl and know we grew these tomatoes from seeds. Also there’s currently zucchini bread in the oven from our garden ☺️

I felt super comfortable and they executed my vision perfectly. 👽 I’ve been a diehard X Files fan since I was a kid (swipe for evidence and a photo of me and Gillian Anderson where I have never felt uglier lmao), so this means a ton.

Re: COVID-19. Truthfully I felt super nervous to get my tattoo and super nervous to post it here. I’ve still been doing my best to stay home but am also (like many of you, I think) struggling mentally. So where is the balance? Honestly I don’t know. I haven’t had a haircut (besides doing it myself), had my nails done, or sat down to eat except for once (and it was a place with no servers). I barely see anyone except my husband. Some days it’s fine and others it’s “how much more of this can I take?” So anyway. I took a risk, but @blackbirdinktattoo was taking everything very seriously. All were masked and sanitized (duh it’s a tattoo place) and I specifically chose a leg tattoo so Christa and I wouldn’t be breathing on each other. I long for the day when things are normal again. I long for the day when I can see my family again. But for now, I’ll try to safely find small pockets of joy and normalcy and ride those little waves until the next pocket of joy.

Save, Spend or Splurge Holiday Gift Guide

This post may contain affiliate links, which means if you click and/or make a purchase, I may earn a few cents at no additional cost to you. Any products gifted by a brand will be marked "c/o." Thanks for helping make this blog possible! <3

I’ve been meaning to put together gift guides for quite some time (remember my November goal for holiday post planning lol?) Instead of doing ten different gift guides, because let’s be honest they get excessive, I’m throwing it all in one place. I’m giving you three different price point options: Save (under $30), Spend ($30-$50), Splurge ($50+). I know some people don’t think of $50 as a splurge, but I do, especially if it’s on one gift so that’s why I broke it out that way. Of course you can combine gifts if your budget is a big bigger but hopefully this is more inclusive for people like me who need to be thrify! Don’t forget to click on the bold words to link you straight to the item. Happy shopping!

For the beauty lover:

Save –

Real Techniques Brushes or Brush sets  – They’re all great but if you don’t know where to start, a gift set is always a safe bet! Plus even if they have a lot of makeup brushes, you can always use duplicates.

Urban Decay Electric Pressed Pigments Palette (half off right now!) – The bright colors in this palette are AMAZING. Any beauty lover would love this in their collection and they probably don’t have anything like it already.

elf Cosmetics Eyeshadow Palettes – I love most elf products but these palettes are some of my favorites. I’m a big fan of Mad for Matte, Everyday Smoky and Prism Palette (I’ve used both Sunset and Smoky).

ColourPop Value Sets – I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again – you can’t go wrong with ColourPop. And the packaging on their sets is top notch.

Spend –

Pixi Rose Oil Blend – I’ve been loving Pixi face products lately, but the Oil Blend has to be my favorite. It feels SO expensive and high end and works wonders on my dry winter skin. I usually mix a few drops in with my moisturizer at night.

Kat Von D Everlasting Mini Liquid Lipstick Set – She’s one of *the* liquid lipstick experts and I LOVE mini lipsticks because you can try them without spending $20 a tube.

Splurge –

Literally any big makeup set is a perfect splurge for a beauty lover. Remember when you were a kid and you would freak out over those art sets that had a bunch of colored pencils, watercolors and oil pastels? That’s how any beauty lover feels when she gets a big makeup set! Whether you get the NYX Liquid Suede Vault Collection (I WANNNNT) or you go real crazy with the Urban Decay XX Vault…you can’t lose.

For the jet setter:

Save –

Pack This Pad – I pretty much always forget something when I travel and I’m betting there are plenty of others who feel the same way. There’s something quirky and fun about this gift that I just love – pair it with a few other travel accessories for a thoughtful and practical gift.

Spend –

Convertible Travel Blanket – YOU GUYS. This blanket packs itself into a pillow. Travel game changer.

Kindle Fire – Whether you read, browse social media, watch tv and movies or play games, the Kindle Fire is an awesome way to stay entertained. Plus the price point is really reasonable so you don’t have to worry about losing it while you travel.

Splurge –

Herschel Supply Bags  – If you need me, you can find me obsessing over this gorgeous floral bag. Goodness. I love the simplicity of their designs and they come in solids too (like the grey one above) so there’s something for everyone.

Fjallraven Bags – Another awesome bag choice. Adventure gear that’s been around for over 50 years…you seriously can’t go wrong.

HP Sprocket Photo Printer – A wireless printer that connects to your phone via Bluetooth and doesn’t use ink. Yes, you read that right. I love this for travel because it’s the fun and convenience of a Polaroid but you can take as many tries as you want on your phone before printing!

For the cute & quirky gal:

Save –

ban.do Tumbler – Anything ban.do is perfect for someone who loves cutesy things. I’m especially loving their tumblers and travel mugs right now because they’re just as practical as they are cute.

Spend –

The Nick Box – If she’s a 90s lover, this is a MUST HAVE! You can order the quarterly plan and cancel after the first box if you’re just doing a one-time gift. Another alternative is to pay for the annual subscription and have it shipped to yourself and keep the rest of the boxes (I mean whaaaaat?)

Splurge –

SunnyLife Neon Lights – …this one’s a bit of a gamble but seriously, how cute are these neon lamps?! I would only get this if your pal’s home is full of eclectic decor but for the right person, it’s an AMAZING gift.

For the glam lady:

Save OR Spend –

BaubleBar jewelry – I couldn’t decide whether BaubleBar counted as a Save or Spend, so I’m putting it in both categories! They have tons of great pieces and if you check the sale section you can get some AMAZING deals. Use the code LOVE30 for an additional 30% off your purchase….even sale pieces.

Splurge –

Kate Spade Shoes – To me, nothing says glam more than a pair of Kate Spade shoes. Seriously, they’re all just darling!

For the tech lover:

Save –

Ring Light – I’m not even ashamed to say I own and love this little light. Is it the best lighting ever? No. Is it better than not having anything? Yep. Plus it’s way cheaper than a Lumee case and you can just clip it on your phone when you need it instead of carrying around a big heavy case.

Spend –

Chromecast – I’ve been happily using this little guy for years and it’s a game changer. I know a lot of people are team Amazon Fire Stick, but I prefer the Chomecast because you can cast literally anything from your phone or computer browser. Whether it’s Netflix, Hulu, or just some random streaming site – you can watch it on your tv! Also it comes with three free months of HBO Now so it’s a pretty amazing deal.

HP Roar Mini Speaker – I honestly can’t believe this speaker is only $36. It’s tiny but the sound is pretty amazing, especially for what you pay. It’s travel friendly and can be used just about anywhere. If you have a music lover on your list, this one’s a must-have.

Splurge –

Fossil Q Tailor Leather Strap Smart Watch – I’ve avoided a smart watch until now because, let’s be honest, they’re not exactly “pretty.” No shade to the Apple Watch, they’re just not for me. I definitely recommend this watch for someone who wants a little sense of style with their technology.

Phewwwww that’s everything. I hope this gave you some last minute ideas if you’re still holiday shopping! Anyone else still have a few things left to buy?

xoxo
Valery

Dennis and Sweet Dee are here to help ward off the Dennis and Sweet Dee are here to help ward off the Sunday scaries 🐾 In case you missed it in my stories, these are our newest fosters! (We just decided on names today - I think having to name two slowed us down 🤣) Usually we only have pups for three nights but we had to keep these little pals for an extra week before they’re ready to be adopted.

Also I PROMISE I am going to record a video/write a post about fostering this week so keep your eyes peeled for that.

Annnnd last but not least if you’re in the Denver area and looking for a puppy, message me if you want more info on either of these little ones! 🥰
