Sweatshirt: Fiercely by Valery Brennan (hey that’s me! Available here) | Coat: Rue 21 (sold out but they have tons of cute coats in regular and plus sizes) | Boots: Charlotte Russe (sold out in most sizes but they have tons of cute combat boots here) | Everything else is so old I have no idea where it’s from lol
Sweatshirt outfit is something I’ve searched on Pinterest a LOT. Unfortunately most of the results are just photos of very thin women wearing leggings, a sweatshirt and tennis shoes. Isn’t it weird how some people just don’t look frumpy? I don’t know what it is, but if I wore that I wouldn’t look carefree and fun, I would look…well, basically like I do every time I work from home. And it ain’t pretty, y’all.
- Wear a statement coat. First off, if you don’t have a statement coat….you need one. I’m extra (and I live in a place with pretty intense winter weather) so I have quite a few. They’re so fun and they add SO much personality to an outfit with almost zero effort. A statement coat is pretty much anything that’s a step above your basic winter coat. It might be a crazy pattern, a bold color, faux fur, or any combination of those!
- Accessorize. I know, I know, you’re probably like “duh, Valery.” But seriously, adding a few accessories will take even the most basic sweatshirt outfit to the next level! Jewelry, sunnies, a hat, scarf….okay yeah, you know what accessories are.
- Cut the band off your sweatshirt. Basic sweatshirts can sometimes look and feel….well….basic. I haven’t done it yet, but I fully intend on cutting the band off of my sweatshirt to give it a little more edge. You don’t have to sew anything, just take a pair of scissors and cut just above the elastic band. The edge will roll itself up but shouldn’t fray much (if at all). You can also cut more off if you want more of a crop top.
That’s it! The world’s comfiest shirt is now part of a cute and comfy outfit to get you through the rest of the winter. Now go forth and conquer while wearing your sweatshirts – braless, with a statement coat and accessories!
xoxo

Great tips for when I don’t really feel like dressing up too much! Thanks!
