The last few weeks I’ve been boldly declaring (mostly to my dogs and my husband) that 2018 is going to be MY year. I’ve had tons of ideas swirling in my head and lots of excitement building. Unfortunately it was manifesting itself into anxiety (not necessarily the bad kind), but it was making it difficult for me to DO anything with all these ideas. I decided to take the plunge and purchase Powersheets from Cultivate What Matters to help guide my goals and vision for 2018 and boy howdy, did they ever!
I wasn’t expecting to have a “word of the year” ready by January 1st. I was feeling a little behind in my preparation and I was totally okay with that (as I mentioned in this post, I’m working on practicing forgiveness with myself). Once I got my Powersheets, that all changed. I’ve spent the last few days sick in bed, with my Powersheets in my lap just going to TOWN on them trying to nail down what I want the next year to look like. Thankfully, one of the sections is coming up with a word of the year.
I jotted down a few words that I thought might be a good fit based on the work I had already done, and then headed over to thesaurus.com! I looked up each of my words and then found synonyms, and repeated that process until I had about 20 words to choose from. The last word I wrote down was “flourish.” I thought this one might be the winner, so I looked up the definition just to be sure.
flour·ish – grow or develop in a healthy or vigorous way, especially as the result of a particularly favorable environment
Well I’ll be.
This fit PERFECTLY with what I’ve been working on in my Powersheets – I’ve learned over the last few months that my environment plays a big role in how I am doing mentally. If my house is a cluttered mess, so is my mind. I also love this definition’s emphasis on growth in a healthy way. I’ve spent the last few years really hustling, but this year I plan on being more intentional with my growth. I’m going to flourish.
Have you chosen a word for 2018? I’m linking up with Nicole, so make sure to head over to her post for even more inspiration! It’s amazing to see what different people are focusing on for the upcoming year.
Happy 2018, babes! So excited for what this year will bring!
